Tips and information about Roulette

ROULETTE GENERAL RULES
Roulette consists of a wheel with 38 numbers: 1-36, 0, and 00. 

After all the bets have been placed the wheel is spun and a ball is placed on the outer edge of the wheel. The ball will then drop into one of the numbered pockets once the wheel slows down. The numbers on the wheel alternate pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers and alternate between black and red. The two zeros are green in color and are placed at opposite ends of the wheel. The object of the game is to determine which number or color the ball will ultimately land on.

The table layout is arranged so that the 36 numbers are arranged in 3 columns of 12 numbers each. The numbers are in sequence, and can be either red or black, depending on the number. There are two types of roulette bets: inside bets and outside bets. There 6 inside bets: straight bet, split bet, street bet, corner bet, five number bet, and a line bet. There are three basic outside bets: even-money, column, and dozen bets. You can place as many different types of bets as you want. There are no limits to the number of wagers placed on each spin, as long as the total dollar amount does not exceed $100.

There is a winning number display at the top right of your screen which shows you the most recent winning numbers. The common perception is that if a number has not been shown as winning in a long time, it could be time to put a stake on that number!

STRAIGHT BET
You can bet on one number by placing a chip in the centre of the number you want to place your bet on(1-36, 0, 00). If that number wins you are paid 35 to 1.

SPLIT BET OR TWO NUMBER BET
You can place your chip on the line between two separate numbers. If the ball lands on either of these numbers you win. The pay out is 17 to 1.

STREET BET OR THREE NUMBER BET
This allows you to cover three numbers in a row with one bet. To make this bet place your chip in the outside line of the row you want to bet on. If one of these three numbers comes up, you win. The pay out is 11 to 1.

CORNER BET
Place your chip in the centre of four numbers and if one of these numbers comes up you win. Pays at 8 to 1.

FIVE BET
The only five number bet you can make is on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Place your chip on the outside line that divides the 0 and 1. If any of these 5 numbers comes up you will be paid 6 to 1.

SIX LINE BET
Allows you to bet on two rows of three numbers. Place your chip in between the outside line of the last numbers of the two rows. If any of the 6 numbers come up you will be paid 5 to 1.

OUTSIDE BETS
The following 3 outside bets all pay at 1 to 1.

OUTSIDE BET: ANY RED OR BLACK BET
Bet on either red or black. Place your chip on either the red spot or the black spot.

OUTSIDE BET: ANY LOW NUMBER OR HIGH NUMBER BET
Bet on whether the next number will be 1 through 18 or 19 through 36. Place your chip on either the 1 to 18 spot or on the 19 to 36 spot. You lose if either the 0 or the 00 come up.

OUTSIDE BET: ANY EVEN OR ODD BET
Bet on whether the number will come up as even or odd. Place your chip on the even spot or the odd spot. You lose if either the 0 or the 00 come up.

DOZEN BET (1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12)
These bets divide the roulette table into the numbers 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Place your chip on one of three spots: 1st 12, 2nd 12, or the 3rd 12. This bet pays 2-1.

COLUMN BETS
A column bet is a bet on any one of the three long columns of numbers. To make the column bet place your chip on any one of the 2 to 1 spots. This bet pays 2 to 1.

ROULETTE SYSTEMS
There are more systems devised to beat the roulette wheel than any other game. A system may give you an edge, but don't expect to systematically play your way to riches off the casinos.

For one thing, everything considered, it is a very difficult task. For another thing, it's unlikely that the casinos will sit back and do nothing about it.

Simply aiming to win to stay ahead at all times as a primary objective, even by a small margin, is a more realistic goal and a great achievement.

In a game of chance, using a system is no guarantee of winning, but a well-devised roulette system can streamline your losses, control your winnings and have a strategy that will give you an opportunity to be a winner.

Roulette systems that have a strategy to win most of the time, but lose out overall, are not winning systems. A winning system is one with a strategy to make you win overall and keep you ahead at all times.

It has been shown time and again that roulette systems that rely on probability have failed to produce consistent successful results. That is because roulette is not a game of probability.

At roulette, each spin is a new spin and the outcome is never determined by prior spins. Therefore, the probability for a possible outcome is the same for each spin and a probability advantage cannot be generated.

For example: Which outcome has a higher probability after eight successive Blacks? Black again or Red?

The probable answer is Red. Wrong! After eight successive Blacks, a Black is as likely to come as a Red. The wheel has no memory and it does not keep record of previous results.

This is what many gamblers find hard to believe. This misconception has been around for many years and will probably be around for as many more years.

It is known as the gambler's fallacy. In theory, roulette may be looked at as a game of probability and that the casino advantage of 5.26% with a double zero wheel (2.7% with a single zero wheel) makes the player a definite loser.

In practice, as far as the player is concerned, roulette is a game of luck and the player has a chance to win.

If you were to bet $5 on Black for 38 spins on a double zero wheel, in theory you would win and lose every other spin and after 38 spins (which is about an hour of play at a busy table) you would lose $10 for twice the zero outcome.

In practice, during an hour of play, at some stage, if you were lucky, you would be up, and if you were unlucky, you would be down by more than $10, and deciding when to quit will determine the amount of your winnings or losses.

Consider this: If there was no casino advantage and you were paid 37 to 1 (36 to 1 for a single zero wheel) instead of 35 to 1 on numbers and didn't lose on the outside bets when the outcome was zero, during the past several times that you have played the roulette, would you now be even with your money? Chances are it would not make much difference. You would still be either winning or losing and by much more than 5.26%.

The reason is that at roulette, by far the two major factors that determine how much you win or lose are: (1) Your luck on the day and (2) Deciding when is the best time to quit.

Therefore, for a roulette system to have a degree of success, it has to be linked to luck and telling you exactly when to quit. Additionally, a good system has to take into account other obscured, but important advantages for both the casino and the player.

To the casino: The player's natural greed for money; the player's lack of self-discipline; and time (the longer you play, the higher the chances that you hit a streak of bad luck and run out of money).

To the player: You can choose when and where to bet. You can choose and vary the amount of your bet. You decide when to quit.

Now, if you agree to all that has been said so far and give it some thought, you could well apply a roulette strategy yourself that is linked to luck.

Additionally, if you are able to weaken the above-said three casino advantages (not easy) and make good use of the player's three advantages, chances are, in the long run, you may come out an overall winner.

If you try to beat the roulette wheel mathematically, it's unlikely that you will get anywhere, even with no casino advantage (no 0-00). Mathematics and gambling don't mix. In mathematics you know exactly what is going to happen.

Gambling is the exact opposite; you never know what is going to happen - otherwise it wouldn't be gambling.

MARTINGALE ROULETTE SYSTEM
In the Martingale roulette system, each bet is doubled after a loss, and you go back to your starting bet after every win. You will win one unit for every win, as long as you have enough money and do not get to the house limit. Once you reach the house limit, then you will lose the house percentage because there is no place else to go.

There are many variations of Martingale roulette system, and it can be used with other methods. For example, you can use a three-stage Martingale of 10-20-40 combined with betting that the decision before the last one will repeat.... or bet that the FIRST shooter (only) will throw a pass (or don't pass). In this latter one you are betting only one bet on each shooter.

Some people add one or more units to each of the doubled bets. Others will change to a parlay after a certain point (let the first bet "ride" on the second bet after a win) and bet the amount that it takes to win what you want to win. Another variation would be to split it up and then win it back one part at a time.... there are many variations of Martingale roulette system, with which people swear they are winning.

LABOUCHERE ROULETTE SYSTEM
The Labouchere roulette system, also called "Split Martingale" or "Cross-Out" or "Cancellation" or several other names.

In its simplest form, you write down some numbers... let's say 1 2 3. Each bet is the first and last of these numbers. In this example, it is 1 and 3, which equals 4. If you win you cross the two number off and bet the next two that are on the outside. In this instance there would be only the single two unit bet. If that wins you complete the series and win a total of all of the numbers (six here). If the bet loses, then you add that one number to the end of the series. So, the first bet would be 4 and it loses, so you add 4. That makes the next bet 1 plus 4, which is 5. And so on....

This means that you need to win only 1/3 of the bets PLUS two more and you will complete the series and win the amount that is in the series. Since you normally will win ALMOST half of your bets, that means that you MUST win... or must you??

This has also been done with many variations. One would be to use different numbers, such as lots of ones in the beginning, to keep the series from growing so fast. So, the series would be something like 1 1 1 2 2 3. When you complete the series you will win 10 units. The first bet is still four. You must win 1/3 plus 3.

Other people have devised ways of splitting it up when the bet gets too high. Set it aside and win one series and then go back and finish the second series.

There is a "Reverse Labouchere roulette system" for the brave at heart. You add the amount of the win to the end, and cancel the 2 outside numbers each time that you lose. The bet is the sum of these two outside numbers. This gives you many very small losses in return for an occasional very large win.

PARLAY ROULETTE SYSTEM
A parlay is very simple. You just "let it ride." Make a bet, and then leave the winnings there to ride on the next bet. This does not have to be the whole amount. There is a method around called "31" where you have a series which is 1 1 1 2 2 4 4 8 8 (for a total of 31 units). Your first bet is one unit. This could be any bet from a dollar to 1/16 of the table limit. It is 1/16 and not 1/8 because you must parlay the 8 units. If that bet wins, you bet the same amount again. If it loses you go up the series with a parlay on each bet. Notice that if you win any of the parlays you will be winning anyplace from one to nine units.
